Shangri-La deal in Qatar

Hong Kong's Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts announced on 16 September the signing of a management agreement with local firm Al-Rayan Tourism Development Company to operate a new hotel in Doha. The agreement will cover the 35-story five-star Shangri-La Hotel in the Qatari capital, which will open in time for the start of the 2006 Asian Games.

Shangri-La has recently started operations in the Gulf, opening its first hotel, the Shangri-La Hotel Dubai, in July 2003. The company's second hotel in the region will be the Traders Hotel, Dubai, which will open in October 2003, and a third hotel, the Shangri-La Barr Al-Jissah Resort & Spa, Muscat, Oman, will open in 2005.
