Siemens chases Kirkuk deal

Germany's Siemensis close to signing a $95 million turnkey contract to install two new turbines at a plant in Kirkuk. The gas units will add 260 MW to the plant's capacity. Siemens' US subsidiary Westinghousewill carry out the project. The company is also preparing to start work on the rehabilitation of units 5 and 6 at the Daura plant. Both contracts fall under the scope of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) reconstruction programme being managed by the US' Bechtel(MEED 14:11:03).

Bechtel is preparing to tender a number of key power rehabilitation contracts. A tender is expected in early 2004 for the rehabilitation of the Shuaiba gas-fired power station. Tenders are also awaited for the installation of 100 MW of power at the Baghdad South oil-fired station.
