German firm will install high voltage network and substations to upgrade kingdom’s transmission and distribution infrastructure

Germany’s Siemens has been awarded a contract by Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) to install a new high-voltage electricity transmission network and associated substations.

Siemens will upgrade Bahrain’s national power transmission network to 400kV, which will improve the transmission network and allow further expansion of Bahrain’s generation infrastructure.

The German company will also build three 400/220kV substations to allow increased distribution of electricity to cope with the growing demand for energy throughout the kingdom.

The three substations will be located at Al-Hidd, Riffa and Umm al-Hassam. The substations are scheduled to be completed in two years.
