Dubai Electricity & Water Authority awards Al-Mazmar substation contract
Germany’s Siemens has won a €90m ($130m) contract from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority.
Under the contract, Siemens will build a 400/132kV substation in Dubai’s Al-Mazmar district. The company is due to complete work on the project by July 2011.
Demand for power in the UAE is growing at a rate of 6 per cent a year.
In May, Siemens won a €60m contract to build a substation for the Elixier nitrogen plant at Mirfa in Abu Dhabi.
The contract covers the construction of a 220kV substation, which will supply electricity to an air-separation unit at the nitrogen plant. The substation is due to come on line in late 2010.
Siemens is a subcontractor to Germany’s Linde Engineering on the scheme (MEED 27:5:09).
