Germany provider to build compressor train for new PTA plant in Saudi Arabia
Arabian Industrial Fibres Company (Ibn Rushd) has awarded Germany’s Siemens Energy a contract to provide a new compressor train at its planned purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia.
The train will be able to produce 350,000 tonnes a year (t/y), which will double the existing capacity at the site. Siemens will also modernise the existing facilities. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
The technology was purchased by the Taiwan’s CTCI, the contractor carrying out the engineering, procurement and construction at the plant.
PTA is used to produce polyester yarn clothing, tire cord and as a resin in plastic bottle moulding.
Ibn Rushd is an affiliate of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic).
