Substations will supply high-voltage power to contractors on Clean Fuels Project
State refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has awarded Germanys Siemens a KD68.2m ($240.5m) contract to supply high-voltage electricity substations at its refineries.
Siemens will supply and install a 132kV substation at the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery and a 300/132kV substation at the Mina Abdulla refinery, including high-voltage cable connections, according to a 15 September press release.
Bids were submitted for the deal in March by four firms.
The project is scheduled for completion in December 2015. The substations will feed power to the electrical drives and auxiliary systems of the long awaited $18bn Clean Fuels Project to revamp and expand production at the Mina al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries. This will ensure high-voltage power supply to the contractors when they finally start work on the scheme.
