11 October 2004
China's Sinohydro Corporationhas been awarded a RO 57.2 million ($146.8 million) contract to build the Al-Bawshar wastewater collection network and treated effluent redistribution system, part of the $1,000 million Muscat wastewater project. Bids have also been invited by 22 November for the project management consultancy (PMC) contract covering the entire scheme.

Sinohydro was low bidder for the contract by a considerable margin when commercial offers from four companies were opened in mid-September. The work calls for the construction of a main collector and central and secondary pumping stations and connection to the network of 18,000 properties (MEED 17:9:04).

A number of contracts on the project, which aims to connect 90 per cent of the capital's residents by 2017, have seen movement recently. Technical bids were opened on 20 September from four companies for the installation of the 53,000-cubic-metre-a-day Al-Ansab sewage treatment plant and a control system for the whole project, and bids are under evaluation from prospective financial advisers on the establishment of an operation and maintenance joint venture with the client, Oman Wastewater Services Company(MEED 24:9:04).
