A tight race is in store for the second package on the Dubai convention centre project, following the return of bids by six locally based contractors on 1 December. Just 2.5 per cent separates the prices of the four lowest bidders, with Khansaheb Civil Engineeringoffering the cheapest quote at AED 119 million ($32.4 million). The client is Dubai Municipality with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC- MEED 2:11:01).
Package 2 covers the construction of a 10-storey office block and a three-storey podium at the DWTC site. The contract, due to be awarded by early January, is scheduled to be completed in time to host the IMF/World Bank meeting in September 2003.
Khansaheb is already working on the project, having been awarded in September the first package on the development. It covers the construction of the 4,250-seat convention centre, an eight-story car park, and a concourse area (MEED 14:9:01).
The local/UK Al-Naboodah Laingis to build two hotels at the site under the terms of a letter of intent that it received in late November (MEED 7:12:01).
