Work will involve construction of 2.4 kilometre-long causeway
Bahrain’s Works Ministry has awarded a team of Belgium’s Six Construct and Bahrain’s local Haji Hassan a BD100m ($265m) contract to build the North Manama Causeway and Bridge project.
The joint venture beat competition from South Korea’s Sungwon Corporation, which bid BD119m, and Bahrain’s Hafeera Group at BD117m. Malaysia’s Gamuda submitted two offers: the first was BD127m and the second BD141m.
The project will provide access to the Bahrain Bay development from Manama’s diplomatic district.
The three-year contract involves the construction of a 2.4 kilometre-long causeway on reclaimed land, upgrades of junctions on the King Faisal highway, 1.6 kilometres of road upgrades, a single span 51 metre-long bridge crossing a canal, and a flyover running alongside the Bahrain Bay development.
The consultant is UK-based Hyder Consulting.
