Atkins bids low on contract covering design of towers

Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah) has received bids from six consultants for the contract to design new headquarters for the National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga).

The low bidder is UK-based Atkins with a price of BD1.6m ($4.25m). The other bidders are UK-based RMJM at BD2m, Australia’s Woods Bagot at BD2.4m, US-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture at BD2.5m, US-based Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) at BD3m, and UK-based Foster & Partners at BD4.8m.

The successful bidder will design two towers, one with 40 floors and the other with 30 floors, on a 22,000 square metre plot of land between Bahrain Financial Harbour and Bahrain Bay.

Edamah expects contractors to start work on the project during the third quarter of 2010.

Noga and other oil and gas-related organisations will use the two towers when they are built.
