Snamprogetti bids low for Aramco seawater plant

22 August 2003
Italy's Snamprogetti has emerged as the frontrunner for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build a seawater treatment plant in the Eastern Province for Saudi Aramco. Four companies submitted bids on 2 August for the project, which is part of the water injection programme at Ain Dar and Shedgum (MEED 8:8:03).

At about $110 million, Snamprogetti is understood to have submitted the low bid by a margin of up to $10 million. The other bidders on the project are Paris-based Technip-Coflexip, Italy-based Techintand Canada's SNC Lavalin. A contract award is expected before the end of August.

The release of the tender for the project's second package has been delayed and is now due to be issued in early December. It covers the construction of a 70-100-kilometre-long, 44-inch-diameter pipeline linking the plant with the oil fields.

The project manager on the scheme is SNC Lavalin.
