Solar Impulse lands in Abu Dhabi to complete 40,000km trip
The solar-powered airplane Solar Impulse has completed a round-the-world flight, landing in Abu Dhabi on 26 July.
The Solar Impulse is the first ever plane to complete a round-the-world trip powered solely by energy from the sun. The plane began its 40,000km round-the-world flight in March 2015 when it departed from the UAE emirate of Abu Dhabi. Since then it spent more than a total of 23 days in the air and crossed the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, with stopovers on four continents.
The plane has a wingspan longer than a Boeing 747 and has more than 17,000 solar cells on its wings.
