The Algerian state-owned oil company Sonatrach and Italy’s Eni have started production of natural gas from their shared Menzel Ledjmet East field, about 1,000 kilometres south of Algiers.

A plant at the site processes about 318 million cubic feet a day (df/d) of gas, as well as 15,000 barrels a day (b/d) of oil and 12,000 b/d of liquid petroleum gas (LPG).
