Sonatrach consortium awards JGC $400m contract

Japanese contractors wins package on Bir Seba Field Development Project

A consortium including Algeria’s Sonatrach has awarded Japan’s JGC Corporation a $400m engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Bir Seba Field Development Project.

The work includes the construction of a gathering system for 16 oil wells, crude processing facilities capable of handling 20,000 barrels a day (b/d), as well as oil and gas export pipelines.

The scheme is located inland about 130 kilometres north east of Hassi Messaoud and completion is set for the first half of 2014.

The consortium behind the project includes Sonatrach, which has a 25 per cent share; Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation, which has 40 per cent; and Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Algeria; which holds the remaining 35 per cent.
