Sonelgaz makes two awards

Two consortiums have won contracts to build combined-cycle power plants at Terga and Koudiet Draouch, after Algerian state energy company Sonelgaz opened commercial bids on 20 November.

France’s Alstom with Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries will build a 1,200 MW plant at Terga, 400 kilometres west of Algiers. The consortium submitted a price of $1.98bn and will complete the project in 45 months.

The second 1,200 MW plant at Koudiet Draouch, 600 kilometres east of Algiers, will be built by a consortium of the US’ GE and Spain’s Iberdrola. The companies bid $2.15bn for the project and will complete it within 46.5 months.
