Sorouh gets moving with Shams infrastructure

28 July 2006
More construction work is due to start at Shams Abu Dhabi as local real estate developer Sorouh Real Estate issues tenders for the main infrastructure package, and prepares to make an award for an earthworks package. Once completed, the 1.3 million-square-metre mixed-use development will occupy about 25 per cent of the 6.3 million-square-metre Reem island located 300 metres off Abu Dhabi island (MEED 4:11:05).
Companies have been invited to bid by 2 August for the main infrastructure package, which includes the construction of internal roads and the installation of services for the entire development.

Sorouh is also evaluating bids from eight local companies for an earthworks and deep sewer excavation package.

The bidders are: Abu Dhabi General Transport Company, Abu Dhabi Land, ADMAC, ADMAK General Contracting, Al-Jaber Group, Al-Muhairy General Contacting, Copri Contracting and Hilalco.

The UK's Hyder Consulting is the infrastructure consultant on Shams Abu Dhabi. The US' Hill International with 3D/I+PI, made up of US-based 3D/I, Bahrain-based Projacs International and the local
Al-Qudra Holding, is the overall project manager.
