There are major plans to modernise many of Iran’s airports.   One of the most advanced airport projects in the Islamic Republic is the expansion of the Shahid Hashemi Nejad International airport, located in the country’s second-most populous city of Mashhad.

France’s Vinci Airports earlier signed a build, operate and transfer (BOT) agreement with Iran Airports Company for the development of the Mashhad airport and another airport in Isfahan.

It is understood that both schemes had already received a mandate from the French government for financing.
