The firm will build a power and water generation plant at Adnoc’s Ruwais refinery complex

South Korea’s Samsung Engineering has received a letter of award (LOA) from Adnoc Refining, the downstream unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), to deliver a new power and water generation plant at the company’s Ruwais refinery complex.

The value of the engineering contract is $473m, Samsung Engineering revealed in a statement.

The Waste Heat Recovery Project (WHRP) will be constructed at the Ruwais facility, 240km west of Abu Dhabi City, providing additional power and fresh water to the facility when it comes on stream in 2023.

The scope of work for Samsung includes the installation of heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and a new steam turbine and generator (STG) desalination unit.

Jacobs (USA) is the project management consultant for the project, while Neste Jacobs (Finland) has done the front-end engineering design work of the project.

Adnoc last month announced a $3.1bn project to enable crude processing flexibility at its Ruwais oil refinery. Samsung Engineering has previously delivered six projects for the Ruwais complex.
