South Korea’s Hyundai delivers the last of five vessels to Bahri

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) has delivered the last of its contracted package of five additional very large crude carriers (VLCC) to Saudi state shipping firm Bahri.

The delivery of ‘Amad’ brings the number of VLCCs in Bahri’s fleet to 46 and total vessels to 93.

The new vessel, which will be operated on a time-charter/spot basis, concludes Bahri’s three-year agreement with HSHI signed in May 2015, to build five VLCCs and five more optional VLCCs, to fuel Bahri’s expansion strategy.

Amad joins the four vessels Bahri received from HSHI earlier this year, namely, Kassab, Lawhah, Qamran, and Khurais, following the five vessels the company received in 2017, including Amjad, Maharah, Aslaf, Rimthan, and Shaden.

Amad was delivered to Bahri by Hyundai at a ceremony in South Korea on 9 May. With the capacity to transport 2.2 million barrels of crude oil, the 300,000-DWT carrier’s stands at 333 metres long with a beam of 60 metres, and a depth (from keel to main deck) of 30 ‎meters.

The speed of the vessel is 14.4 knots.
