• QPMC signs shipping deal with South Korean firm
  • Vessels will proceed from Fujairah in the UAE and Oman to port and logistics area in Mesaieed

Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) has signed a contract of affreightment (CoA) with South Korea’s Hyundai Glovis.

Under the terms of the deal, Hyundai Glovis will ship 10 million tonnes a year (t/y) of aggregates for five years, starting from January 2016. The South Korean firm will make 161 trips a year.

The vessels will proceed from Fujairah in the UAE and Oman to QPMC’s port and logistics area in Mesaieed in Qatar’s Al-Wakra area.

The deal follows an agreement with QPMC and Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to supply 92 million tonnes of gabbro and limestone.

In August, QPMC started supplying local companies with gabbro. A company statement said the firm has since secured 22 million additional tonnes of primary materials from private local firms.
