30 January 2008
Spain’s Obrascon Huarte Lain has won a Eur400m ($591m) contract to build a convention centre at Oran for Algerian state energy company Sonatrach.

The 24-month design and build contract covers the construction of a 3000-seat auditorium, an exhibition centre, and a 300-room hotel.

The project is being built for the 16th international NGL conference in April 2010, which will discuss natural gas liquids.

Four other contractors bid for the work - France’s Bouygues, Orascom of Egypt, China State Construction Engineering Corporation and South Korea’s Keangnam.

In late January, OHL won a $2.3bn contract to build a hospital in Qatar (MEED 29:01:08).
