Subcontract bidding nears on retail and entertainment complex

25 April 2003
The local Michel Abi Nader Entreprises (Man)has been awarded the $35 million-45 million contract to carry out the main construction package on a new shopping mall development in Beirut. Construction of the 190,000-square-metre retail and entertainment complex will be carried out in two phases and is expected to take 16 months to complete.

The contractor is expected to issue for tender in May a $8 million-12 million mechanical & electrical (M&E) subcontract package and a waterproofing subcontract. It is also preparing further subcontracts for the facades and finishes. The M&E package is particularly critical because much of the work is integrated into the concrete superstructure, for which construction is expected to begin by the end of April.

Local retail group Admicis the project client. Admic holds the master franchise rights to develop France's Bazar de l'Hotel de Ville (BHV)department stores and Monoprix supermarkets in Lebanon and neighbouring countries. BHV is a Parisian household goods department store targeting middle-income consumers and will be the first European-style department store in Lebanon.
