The local Al-Hafri Sugar Refinery Company plans to build a $234mn integrated sugar refinery complex at Sohar industrial area.
The 660,000 tonnes-a-year plant will cover an area of 150,000 square metres and will use technology from France’s Cordonnier.
It is expected to begin production in 2010. The demand for sugar in Oman is estimated to be 120,000 tonnes a year.
