Position: General manager of consumer banking group
Biography: Suvo Sarkar was appointed general manager of consumer banking at NBAD in June. NBAD is the GCC’s third largest bank by asset size. Today, retail banking accounts for 20 per cent of its revenues.
Sarkar has more than 23 years of consumer banking experience with five leading banks across Asia and the Middle East. He was appointed head of retail banking at National Bank of Dubai in October 2007, where he established a profitable retail business from scratch and earned market leadership in mortgages and retail deposits. In November 2009, he led the bank’s integration with Emirates Bank to create Emirates NBD and then headed up the new bank’s retail business.
Sarkar has also worked for the US’ Citibank, as well as the UK’s Standard Chartered.
He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s of business administration from the Indian Institute of Management.
