Swiss commodity trading house Aurora has started civil work on an oil products storage terminal at the Port of Fujairah.

The 635,000-cubic-metre terminal will be used for the storage of oil products, the blending and resupply of fuel oil, gasoline and jet kerosene.

Aurora’s trading director Ammar Kutait says the first phase of the terminal will start operating in early 2011.

Aurora will operate the terminal but will offer storage capacity to third parties.

On a separate project, Fujairah Port Authority is also scheduled to commission the first phase of oil terminal two at the port in September 2010. The multi-berth facility will be used for receiving and loading oil tankers (MEED 17:1:10).

Fujairah is expected to become a key location for oil storage and distribution when Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Construction Company commissions a new 370 kilometre pipeline in 2011. The pipeline will be able to transport up to 1.5 million barrels a day of oil between the emirates (MEED 8:2:10).
