Swissboring wins DFC piling UAE

23 April 2004
Swissboring, part of Italy's Trevi Group, has started work on the AED 52 million ($14 million) piling contract for the waterfront centre on the Dubai Festival City (DFC) development. The four-five-month contract calls for the sinking of about 3,000 piles. The award of the contract follows the completion of excavation work on the waterfront.

The client, the Al-Futtaim Group, has also recently appointed InterContinental Hotelsto manage a planned 500-room hotel on the 1,600-acre development, which will be located along the banks of the creek.

The hotel will cost an estimated AED 600 million ($163 million) and be complete in January 2007. Two other hotels are planned on DFC, which will be developed in 15 zones and require investment of $4,000 million over 10 years (MEED 15:11:02).
