Representatives of the two nation’s ministries of transport met in Damascus on 28 April to discuss closer transport links. In particular, the officials focused on the possibility of Sanaa joining the Syrian-Jordanian Navigation Company as a third partner in the shipping firm.
No timetable has been set for Yemen to join, but the two sides discussed how Sanaa’s involvement could expand the scope of the company’s operation to provide an outlet in the Red Sea. The business currently ships cargo across the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
The talks were headed by the Syrian Assistant Minister of Transport Imad Abdul Hai and Yemen’s Under-secretary of the Ministry of Transport Mohammad Ali al-Subhi.
