Former agriculture minister selected to appoint new government by Syrian leader
Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has appointed former agriculture minister Adel Safar to form a new government.
Safar will be in charge of forming the new government after the previous administration was forced to resign on 29 March as a result of increasing protests at the ruling regime.
At least 60 people are reported to have been killed as a result of clashes with government forces during anti-government protests throughout the country.
