Free Syrian Army target air force intelligence station at Harasta
Syrian army defectors have staged several attacks on the government’s military bases including an air force intelligence station at Harasta.
The Harasta station in Rif-Dimashq Governorate was targeted on the morning of 16 November.
In a statement, the Free Syrian Army said that it also targeted Qaboun where its forces clashed with those loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. It also launched attacks on army sites in Hbihth in Douma and Arabeen.
According to the Free Syrian Army, the attacks were designed to disrupt the Syrian Army’s plans to crackdown on protesters and demonstrate the strength of the dissident army. The actions were taken two days after 34 soldiers of Syria’s army were killed in the southern province of Daraa.
The UN has estimated that some 3,500 people have been killed since the uprising began in March. The Arab League has voiced its concern over escalating violence in Syria and has suspended the country’s membership of the organisation.
