Abu Dhabi's National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed)has established a joint venture company to provide district cooling services in Bahrain, as part of a wider regional expansion under way by the company, which has already taken in Qatar and will eventually extend to Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Tabreed will own 55 per cent of the venture, called Bahrain District Cooling Company (Tabreed Bahrain), while 40 per cent will be held by the local Esterad Investment Companyand 5 per cent by AA Bin Hindi Group, also local. Phased investment of about BD 5 million ($13.2 million) is planned progressively in cooling plants as customers sign up. Tabreed's Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool)recently announced plans for its first plant in the West Bay area of Doha, having signed supply agreements with Commercial Bank of Qatarand the Al-Fardan Twin Towers(MEED 25:4:04).
