Tabreed signs district cooling deal with Abu Dhabi's Masdar

27 December 2017
Three year contract involves managing the district cooling plant and providing operations and maintenance services

Abu Dhabi’s National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) has signed a service agreement with Abu Dhabi’s Masdar to operate its first district cooling plant.

The three year contract involves Tabreed managing the district cooling plant on behalf of Masdar and providing expertise as well as operations and maintenance services.

This includes regular maintenance of onsite equipment, water pumps and other related services through ongoing monitoring, diagnostic and planned maintenance work.

The Masdar district cooling plant is part of Masdar City’s first phase, and will provide the first 6,000 refrigerate tonnes (RT) of cooling of the 94,000 RT planned for the area.

In August 2017, French energy firm Engie completed its acquisition of 40 per cent shares of Tabreed from Abu Dhabi government-controlled Mubadala Development Company.

Mubadala will retain the remaining shares and will remain the biggest shareholder in Tabreed ahead of Engie with an approximately 42 per cent stake.

Tabreed operates 71 district cooling plants throughout the GCC. It delivers over 1 million refrigeration tonnes to key developments in the region including Abu Dhabi’s Al-Maryah Island, Yas Island, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Dubai Metro, Dubai Parks and Resorts, and the Jabal Omar Development in Saudi Arabia.
