The Tartous International Container Terminal (TICT) has undergone an overhaul of its infrastructure and equipment, as well as IT systems, with additional training for staff on site.
The container capacity at the port will eventually be expanded to 500,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from its present 400,000 TEUs.
TICT is a Syrian subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), a Manila-based port operator. The group took over operations at the terminal early last year after signing an operating concession with Tartous Port General Company (MEED 01:12:06)
The upgraded port will continue to target the local market in the short term, but operators have said they would like to offer services to the Iraqi and Jordanian markets in the future.
