France-based TechnipFMC has opened an engineering and manufacturing facility for upstream surface products and technologies in Abu Dhabi.
The plant, which required an investment of over $25m, is located in zone 2 of Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) in Mussafah.
The 18,000 square metre-facility will offer a broader range of in-country capabilities across the firm's drilling, completion, production and pressure control segments.
It includes a training centre and features high-pressure hydraulic and gas testing capabilities in addition to cladding and machining technologies.
The facility lets Technip move closer to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), one of its largest regional customers.
In the second quarter of this year, Adnoc subsidiary Zakum Development Company (Zadco) awarded TechnipFMC an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a sulphate reduction plant (SRP) on Abu Dhabi's West Island.
The scope of the EPC project includes the installation of an SRP module along with new installations and tie-in to existing facilities on West Island.
MEED earlier reported that TechnipFMC is part of the consortium, which includes South Korea’s Samsung Engineering and Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas, that won a $4.2bn contract from the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) for its modernisation programme.
