17 October 2012

Railway will connect to Sadara Chemical Company’s manufacturing facilities

Tenders for the 220-kilometre rail network to be constructed within Jubail Industrial City will be issued in early 2013.

Speaking at MEED’s Mena Rail Projects conference in Abu Dhabi on 17 October, Bashar Almalik, director of civil and track works at Saudi Arabian Railway Company (SAR) confirmed the timeline for the tenders, stating that the project is currently at the detailed design phase.

The Sadara Chemical Company and the SAR signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to design and build a railway network in Jubail Industrial City.

SAR will design and build a railway to transport Sadara’s products from the manufacturing facilities at its complex, which is currently being built in Jubail Industrial City II, to King Fahd Industrial Port (KFIP) and Jubail Commercial Port (JCP).
