24 March 2006
Prequalified companies are preparing to submit technical and commercial proposals on 29 March for the turnkey contract to design, build and supply a gas-fired 95-140-MW single cycle power plant at Samra.
Prequalifiers include Italy's Ansaldo Energia, Europe's ABB, Paris-based Alstom Power, the US' General Electric (GE) and Germany's Siemens. The client is Samra Electric Power Generating Company (SEPGCO), which expects to make an award by mid-year.

The scope of works is divided into civil, mechanical and electrical components and involves land development, roads, drainage, design of plant buildings, supply, delivery, erection, testing, commissioning and putting into commercial operation the single-cycle plant.

The plant will consist of one gas turbine unit, with an optional second turbine of identical scope. The scope also covers a fuel gas system, a fuel oil-diesel system, a generator step-up transformer, a generator breaker and related facilities.
