Three bid for re-tendered Saudi Landbridge project

01 February 2009
All three expected consortiums met the 31 January deadline for bids to build the Saudi Landbridge rail project, including a joint submission between the two former leading groups.

Sources close to the project have indicated they expect a winner to be announced by early-March at the latest.

The Tarabot and Tracc consortiums, led by the local Acwa Power and Saudi Binladin Group respectively, succeeded in filing their joint bid to secure the $7bn rail project. The two had previously been preferred and reserve bidders on the project, but chose to join forces days before the deadline when refreshed financial bids were requested, as revealed in MEED (MEED 25:1:09).

The Agility and Mada consortiums also submitted new entries, despite having to rapidly reassemble their bid teams when the contract was re-tendered late last year by the Saudi Railways Organisation (SRO) MEED 21:12:08).
