Three left in pipeline race

20 December 2002

After a long-drawn out bidding process, just three groups remain in the running for the contract to build the Melitah-Tripoli gas pipeline and compressor station. The client for the estimated $100 million project is Sirte Oil Company (SOC), which is wholly owned by the National Oil Corporation.

Germany's MAN GHH, Athens-based Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P - Overseas)and Italy's Bonattiare the only companies still in negotiation with SOC over the contract. At least 10 contractors, including companies from Turkey, Russia and Tunisia, initially presented bids for the project. The number dwindled to six after revised prices were submitted in September (MEED 4:10:02).

The project entails the construction of a compressor station and installation of 97 kilometres of 34-inch-diameter pipeline, 21 kilometres of 24-inch-diameter pipeline and a fire safety system.
