Digital rock physics study to be carried out at Masdar Institute and The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi
French energy group Total has launched its first research and development (R&D) project with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) based at the Masdar Institute and The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi.
The digital rock physics (DRP) project will produce an archive of rock images and digitally simulate the behavior of oil and gas reservoirs, with the aim of maximising oil recovery.
Masdar Institutes microscopy facility will be used to examine rock samples at nano-scale to generate 3D images of the pore network and morphology of Abu Dhabis reservoirs.
Total has stakes in Adnoc joint ventures Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma-Opco) and Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Adco), and is bidding for a share of the new onshore oil concession.
