Total offers nuclear power to UAE

14 January 2008
A group of French companies, including oil giant Total, are to submit a plan to build a nuclear power plant to the UAE government.

Total, Areva and Suez will build an integrated nuclear power generation plant in the country. Local companies will also be involved in the project.

The companies will develop two 1,600MW evolutionary power reactors.

Total has a long-established presence in the UAE, but if this project goes ahead it would be the company’s first nuclear project. Suez has designed, built and operated nuclear power plants in Belgium for 30 years.

The two companies are already partners in the Taweelah A1 independent water and power project.
