List includes Gaddafi family members and individuals with business ties

Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) is preparing to freeze the assets of at least 300 individuals closely associated with the regime of deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Sources close to the NTC told MEED the list includes the names of private sector and government individuals, as well as members of the Gaddafi family.

The imminent publication of the list and the process of recovering assets belonging to the state is one of the main challenges facing Libyan authorities as they seek to establish stability following the civil war last year which brought an end to Gaddafi’s 42-year regime.

It was also revealed today that plans to hold an election for a new parliament in Libya have been delayed by up to a month, due to a “technical and logistic issue”. Mustafa el-Huni, deputy chairman of the NTC, told MEED the deadline for candidate registration had been extended the deadline by one week by the Election Authority.
