Cigarette vender dies after self-immolation incident in Tunis
A Tunisian cigarette vender has died after setting himself on fire at the municipal theatre on Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis on 12 March.
Reports state that Adel Khedhri’s self-immolation was similar to the event that triggered the Arab Uprisings. In 2010, it was the suicide of Mohamed Bouazizi in similar circumstances that led to the fall of the Tunisian government and sparked protests across the Middle East.
Despite political change in 2011, Tunisia’s political and economic outlook has worsened in recent weeks.
