A contract valued at about $33 million has been awarded to a venture of local companies Alarko and Akfen for the construction of a regional airport at Carsamba near Samsun on the Black Sea. The client is the railway, port and airport construction department (DLH) of the Public Works & Housing Ministry.
The project will be financed on a 100 per cent, supplier credit basis. It calls for the construction of a 3-kilometre runway, a 225,000-square- metre apron, taxi-ways, a control tower, a terminal building, and other ancillary structures.
The DLH is also planning to invite bids for the conversion of more military airfields to civilian use at Corlu in Kocaeli province, and Yenisehir near Bursa. Tenders have already been returned for the conversion of military airfields at Erkilet near Kayseri, and at Konya.
