TURKEY: Bids in for Can power plant

Two bids have been submitted to Turkish Electricity Generation & Transmission Corporation to build the 250-MW Can thermal power plant.

A consortium of France's GEC Alsthom, Germany's EVT and local firms submitted a low bid of about $338.4 million. The bid was made up of five portions: FF 764.15 million ($127.1 million), £8.2 million ($13.5 million), DM 43.35 million ($24.2 million), $108.3 million and TL 14.45 million million ($65.2 million).

The rival consortium consists of Austrian Energy, Japan's Hitachi Corporation and Toshiba, both of Japan, Germany's Lurgi and local firms Pasiner, Ener Enerji Teisisleri and Entes. The consortium's bid totalled $440 million. It was made up of five portions: AS 2,614 million ($207.2 million), DM 149.54 million ($83.5 million), Y 7,000 million ($56.7 million), TL 13.36 million million ($60.3 million) and

TL 7.28 million million ($32.89 million).

Bid evaluation is expected to take two to three months.
