Four ventures have been shortlisted to tender for a 10-year contract to operate water and sewerage services by the Antalya Water Supply & Sanitation Administration (ASAT). The four ventures of foreign with local firms are:
the UK's Thames Water with Dogus France's Lyonnaise des Eaux with Enka France's Saur with Alke the UK's Northwest Engineering with Idil.
The contract calls for operation and maintenance (O&M) of the city's water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment infrastructure, and billing and collection of charges for water and wastewater services, and also possibly billing of charges for solid waste collection and waste disposal.
The services form part of the Antalya water supply and sanitation project, for which a seven-year programme of infrastructure construction has started. Both the World Bank and the European Investment Bank have extended loans towards the scheme.
A prime southern Mediterranean tourist centre, Antalya at present has a resident population of about 535,000, but this expected to increase to 960.000 in 2005. with substantial seasonal increases due to tourism.
