The Energy Ministry is to appeal to the Council of Ministers to overturn the 12 February administrative court ruling annulling the privatisation of eight thermal power stations last year (MEED 31:10:97).
The court action was initiated by the Maden-Is trade union and the Chamber of Electrical Engineers. The court ruled that only the Council of Ministers, and not the Energy Ministry, was authorised to start the tender process.
The court ruling affects the following power contracts:
630-MW Yatagan power plant - The local Bayindir and Mimag, the UK's National Power and the US' Pacificorp with a transfer price of $160 million
Yenikoy and Kemerkoy plants with a combined capacity of 1,050 MW - Bayinder, Mimag, National Power and Pacificorp with a transfer price of $250 million
210-MW Orhaneli plant - the local Suzer Holding with a transfer price of $90 million
300-MW Kangal plant - the local Koc Holding and Demir Export, the US' NRG and Peabody with a transfer price of $125 million
Soma A and B plants with a combined capacity of 1,050 MW - Suzer Holding with a transfer price of $225 million
429-MW Tuncbilek plant - the local Temtas with a transfer price of $100 million
300-MW Catalagzi plant - the local Korona, Avruppa & Amerika Holding, Ucel Haddecelik and Ege Metal with a transfer price of $75 million
300-MW Cayirhan - the local Park Enerji with a transfer price of $185 million
