State pipeline agency Botas has awarded a contract valued at $39.4 million to a venture led by France's Framatome for the construction of an additional compressor station at Gebze, near Istanbul, on the country's main natural gas import line (MEED 12:7:96). The Framatome venture also includes the local Enka Teknik and Termodin. It will build the compressor station in about 20 months on a 100 per cent credit basis. The station will supplement an existing one at Kirklareli on the line.

Botas has also invited direct bids from about 21 local companies by 7 August for the construction of a loop pipeline addition to the main trunk line, which runs from the Bulgarian border to Ankara, and carries natural gas from Siberia. The project is valued at about $80 million, and calls for the laying of about 160 kilometres of 36-inch-diameter pipeline.

The companies include Ceylan, Entes, Guris Enka, Baytur, Intes, Afken Epsilon, Erko, Tekfen, Alsim Alarko, Attila Dogan, Gama Endustri, MNG Mapa, Bayindir, Yuksel Nurol, H Odil, Age, EH Arutan and Pasiner.

Bids were also due to be submitted to Botas on 30 July for a $4 million telecommunications project along the line of the Bursa-Canakkale, and Parzarcik-Karadeniz Ereglisi spurs to the main pipeline
