TURKEY Prequalification invited for Istanbul water supply

International firms have been invited to prequalify for packages 6 and 7 of the Greater Istanbul water supply second stage project, known as the Melen system.

State Hydraulic Works (DSI) says the projects will be largely financed by Japan's Overseas Economic Co-operation Fund. Bidders may apply to carry out the work individually or by forming joint ventures.

Package 6 involves the construction of a pipeline between the Cumhuriyet header tank and Osmankuyu-Kagithane. Detailed work includes transportation of pipes, installation, supply, transportation and installation of valves and pipeline fittings, construction of special pipeline structures, reinforced concrete valve chambers, road and river crossings as well as water tunnels and pipeline service roads. The closing date is 13 November.

Package 7 mainly involves construction of tunnels including the Ortacesme tunnel with a length of 982.8 metres, the 5,571.5-metre Bosphorus tunnel and Ayazaga tunnel with a length of 2,557.6 metres. The closing date is 4 December (see Tenders).
