The deal, the first for Fernas in Qatar, covers the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning for a 11-kilometre, 36-inch steel pipe for Qatargas at Ras Laffan intended to back up the existing supply gas pipeline.

Fernas has also been commissioned to install a new 36-inch gas pipeline at Mesaieed from an existing station to help supply feedstock for the new $4,800 million Qatalum aluminium smelter and the 2,000-MW Mesaieed independent power project being planned by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa).

The contract also covers the laying of fibre optic cables and the tie-in of new pipelines into new and existing facilities.
