The US' Turner International has been appointed project manager for the proposed Abu Dhabi Intercontinental hotel expansion project. Two other companies - the UK's Mace International and DMJM International of the US - submitted bids for the contract.
Estimated to cost AED 200 million-220 million ($54 million-60 million), the project will cover the construction of 80 furnished and serviced apartments, 150 unfurnished apartments and 54 luxury villas. The scope of works also includes the construction of a commercial facility, modifications to the existing marina and health club, and refurbishment of the existing hotel.
Design work for the expansion is expected to be completed by early 2003; project completion has been set for 30 months. The client is Abu Dhabi-based National Corporation for Tourism & Hotels.
