Two groups in line for Al-Kawther gas contract

22 October 2004
The field has narrowed to two international/local teams for the Al-Kawther gas gathering project, with bids due by 11 December for combined front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works. The client is Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

The two remaining prospective bidders are: Sharjah-based Petrofac International, with the local Galfar Engineering & Contracting; and Canada's SNC Lavalin, with the local Al-Hassan Engineering. The US' Kellogg, Brown & Rootrecently dropped out of the tendering process.

The estimated $200 million project calls for the installation of gas gathering and treatment facilities, a cathodic protection system and associated works. The Al-Kawther field contains reserves of about 1 trillion cubic feet (MEED 27:8:04).
